I am a certifying Labour and Postpartum Doula, as well as a certifying Childbirth Educator with Doula Canada. I hold a certificate in Chestfeeding Support and Knowledge from Doula Canada, and a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from MSVU.
Ok. #truthtime right out of the gate. I didn't know what a doula was until a couple years ago! And get this... My oldest child is well into their teen years and my youngest just lost her first tooth! *Gasp* Doula work isn't a well-known here yet. But once I learned what they do, I knew that I needed to become one.
The births of my three children were not without complication or medical intervention. It wasn't until I supported my sisters through their births that I realised the life-changing impact of having accurate information and continuous support during the process.

As a doula, I provide this support so that birthing people can feel strong and confident in their ability to make informed decisions regarding their bodies and their births. Doulas teach people how to use their own voice to advocate for themselves.
It is important to me to build a business that will advocate for diversity and inclusion each and every day. I am a LGBTQ2+ and BIPOC ally and continuously work to recognize my own privileges so I can become more educated and provide compassion and support for all my clients and fellow birth-workers.
I make my home in a small coastal village in Nova Scotia and I believe that I draw strength from my surroundings in so many ways. It's all about the ocean for me. I use it for visualization, meditation, and affirmations. It has always been my reference point and works so beautifully for birth as well. Sea Sister Doula... at your service!
When I'm not studying to be the best Doula I can be - I'm a mom, a sister, a daughter and a wife to the most amazing and supportive family. I also make time to be a writer, graphic designer, crafter, photographer, baker and mental health awareness advocate on the side! It's a crazy life, but I genuinely love every last bit of it.
Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know me and check out my website and services. I really look forward to creating a supportive community here at Sea Sister Doula Company.
Warmest Regards Always,
Katie
